I call it a yearning because it is in my opinion one of the most primal and intense longing, we all share as human beings. We want to feel this sense of acceptance and inclusion. We want to know that we are enough just as we are, and that we belong in our world. We crave to feel free to be ourselves authentically, vulnerably and feel loved unconditionally for it.
I wanted to write this week's blog post as a gentle reminder that you do belong and that no matter what you will always belong to yourself.
The unconditional love we choose to pour on ourselves can help us flourish and grow stronger. When we realize that we are at home within ourselves, we receive this profound sense of peace and acceptance.
I notice that we often stumble in our search for belongingness. Because our society often encourages us to be codependent to technology and to divide us into groups, we are often distracted and de-routed from our instinct to look within for guidance. Instead, we look outward for justifications or explanations. We tend to look for quick fixes, or fun distractions.
The truth remains simple and accessible to us all if we choose to see it. Whenever we can gently tune inward, we feel that peaceful sense of belonging. That assurance that we are imperfect but whole and entirely worthy. We can learn from our mistakes, grow and change. We can feel that we are a small part of something bigger. Whether we are out in nature, at home on a meditation seat, in a public transportation listening to our favorite music, as long as we choose to tune inward and to reflect for a few minutes each day, we can feel a greater sense of belonging. We can always come home to ourselves. We always belong in our own home.
